By applying paleobiological data, information pertaining to the environment of deposition on either side of a probable unconformity can be obtained. Observed fossils can also be used to interpret the temporal extent of a given unconformity. The correlative power of relative age dating allows for an extra degree of certainty when attempting to unravel the depositional history of an area. We apply core, thin section and chip sample based paleobiological data to provide stratigraphic correlation and to determine facies at local and regional scales.
